CENTRAL QUEENSLAND UNIVERSITY EXPANDS

CENTRAL Queensland University (CQU) has expanded its Sunshine Coast campus by securing more space at its Noosaville site.

CQU has a long term lease for further space at the Noosaville Medical and Professional Centre at 90 Goodchap Street, Noosaville, in a deal negotiated by Ray White Commercial Noosa Managing Directors Paul Forrest and Paul Butler.

Mr Forrest said CQU had leased 1660 sqm on a 10 year term plus options and is seeking to secure more space at the centre as other tenants move out.

CQU recently announced a 10-year plan to boost its enrolments at Noosaville from the current level of 600 students to approximately 6,000.

“It’s a fantastic investment in the Sunshine Coast community and the local economy,” Mr Forrest said.

“The university is continuing to attract students as its profile on the Sunshine Coast grows and it is requiring more space to facilitate that expansion.”

Mr Butler said CQU’s Sunshine Coast campus had originally been based at Pomona State High School. The university first sought more suitable space four years ago through Ray White Commercial Noosa.

“CQU initially leased 600 sqm at the Noosaville Medical and Professional Centre and acquired a further 700 sqm in 2009,” he said.

Mr Butler said CQU Vice Chancellor Alistair Dawson recently started negotiations for further space at the Noosaville site.

“They have taken on a further 1660 sqm with first option to take up other areas as leases expire,” he said.

“This will allow the university to grow the campus at its current site to approximately 5000 sqm within the existing footprint.”

CQU’s 1660 sqm lease at the centre is estimated by market sources to be approximately $400 per sqm gross per annum.
